Stepping out this morning and breathing deeply of the cool damp air. Such a balm of fresh crispness during this season of indoor activities. I could describe our breath as a tool, not only for oxygenating our tissues and regulating our nervous system, but that doesn’t honor the full beauty of our breath. Prana, life force, an ebb and flow of bringing in and releasing; our breath is a great connector between our Selves and the Divine.
Winter is nipping at our heels and we are bringing our breath meditations indoors. Cultivating pure fresh air in our homes is always important, but becomes more so as we spend more time there during the dark and damp half of the year.
If we own our homes, an annual service of our HVAC systems is recommended. If we rent, we can ask our landlords about an annual servicing. Whether we rent or own, we can also tend to regular filter changes. Every 3-6 months is recommended. For individual rooms or during times of poor air quality, like forest fires in the summer, we can also use individual air purifiers or make our own by securing a filter to a free-standing box fan.
My favorite filters are Merv-13’s available from Filter Buy. I do not get a kick back for recommending them, they’re just really, really good. They have unique technology for filtering out exceptionally small particles, including mold, pet dander, bacteria. They can be ordered in a wide variety of sizes for your unique needs.
Breathe slow, breathe deep, soul friends! And release, knowing you are whole, and holy, and your breath brings you peace, connection, and deep nourishment.
